Phil & Brendan commenced making electronic music, then felt the desire to mix rock with techno - as a result O, Knokker and Luka then joined.

::  Does "O" have a girlfriend?

No but he is on the lookout.

::  I noticed that Phil, Knokker and O all do other musical stuff outside propane. Does this help
     or hinder Propane?

It's how I earn money, so I suppose that makes it helpful. The contacts that I make have also paid off for Propane. (Phil)

Helpful - it builds diversity. What everyone does is ultimately up to them.
(Brendan)
This can only be helpful in terms of musical progress. These three guys are continually writing, ad as they come from diverse musical backgrounds, the styles vary widely. As a result, not all songs fit into the Propane scheme of things, so having another outlet is important if you want to avoid stagnancy. It does at times cause headaches in the live performance area and getting everyone available!
(Knokker)

::  Where was Propane's first show?

Treasury Hotel - Brisbane

::  What was your most memorable Propane show?

The Watson brothers 80's cocktail party - that was a lot of fun. (Phil)
Groundswell '98
(Brendan)
Blackstump
(Luka)

I remember playing at the Orient Hotel in Brisbane late one Saturday night and it was stinking hot. We were tucked into the corner and the back door (behind the drummer) was open to allow the breeze to act as a cooling agent. This door opened onto the footpath and people were walking past all night. We were in the middle of a song and I turned around to find that a woman walking past with her friends had decided to accost Luka. HE was drumming away and she had snaked here hand down into his "twilight zone". The look on Luka's face was priceless - I will never forget it!
(Knokker)

::  What inspires you?

Getting up at 4:30 on Saturday and Sunday morning to surf at Tea Tree Bay and watch the sun rise. Not so much the still water that resoreth my soul, more like a curling 6 footer! As I experience this each weekend I can't help thank God for the blessings I have received. (Knokker)

Life, beauty, God, sounds, beats...
(Brendan)
Beauty, anger, mystery, soulful sounds, beats or melodies, other people's failures, God, my family.
(Phil)

::  What advice would you give to a band just starting?

Play for fun, when you stop having fun, quit! (Brendan)

::  Do you prefer playing live or recording?

I enjoy both for different reasons. There is nothing quite like the buzz you get from seeing people respond to a live performance. It is quite a special feeling to know that something that you have written is causing an emotional response. The recording process is great as well because it give the chance to create something that has never existed before. I love being able to sit and listen to something and think "that needs another melody line like..." and then create it and gradually develop a single idea into a complex arrangement. But out of the two, live and recording - I'd lean toward the recording. (Knokker)

::  What TV shows do/ did you like?

Get Smart, Seinfeld, Star Trek, Thunderbirds & Happy Days (Brendan)
Star Trek, Northern Exposure, Monkey Magic, The Funky Squad, Lonely Planet, Sessions at West 54th Street & The Goodies
(Luka)

I sold my TV a year ago. I found myself watching mindless tripe and decided that I could invest my time doing better things. In the last year I have read more books than I have in the last 5 years, and have definitely developed my songwriting skills. I would recommend it to everyone to sell their TV!
(Knokker)

::  What is "Too Much Fiction" about?

Life, as real as it can often be stranger that fiction. (Brendan)
History - fact V. fiction (Phil)

::  What is the "Too Much Fiction" film clip about? Men in suits. Who are they? Why are they
running? Where are they going? Will they ever get to where they are heading?

It relates to modern western culture. (Brendan)

::  I find "Bryan Adams" and "Datsun 180B" very funny - where did these songs come from?

They are tongue in cheek social comments - see lyrics for explanation. (Brendan)

::  Where did the name "Orbit To Leslie" come from?

An organ sound used in the song "Datsun 180B". (Brendan)

::  How was "Heading for the Sun" recorded?

This was done completely on a Yamaha MD8 Digital workstation at home with a Roland MC505 for sounds and beat. It took about 4 hours from start to finish, and was originally worked out on acoustic guitar. The backing vocals were laid down using a 15inch bass speaker as a microphone (only cause I didn't have a mic at the time). This was quite amusing as I kept messing up the words as my head was stuck in this huge speaker. I couldn't read what the lyric was - it took about 4 or 5 takes. (Knokker)

::  What was the concept behind the sleeve design for "Too Much Fiction"?

Images of characters doing things that were beyond the physical - truth v. fiction. Colours were picked to stand out on a CD rack. (Luka)

::  What is the song "Hypocrite" about?

"Hypocrite" was written one night after i got really pissed of at different 'Christian' guys in different 'ministry's' after I saw the way they were just using and abusing people - in particular me! It's an angry song directed at all those false prophets proclaiming the name of Jesus purely as a means of making money and feeding their own pathetic vanity. (Phil)

::  Where did the song "Monopoly of Truth" come from?

Originally the riff was from a "Distrort Pigeons" Brendan wrote called "Quicksilver". (Luka)

"Monopoly of Truth" was written after i was experimenting with different ways to create rhythms and groove's. The sample was from a Christian guy, who just won Nobel Science Award in 1999, in answer to a question regarding creation vs. evolution.
(Phil)

::  How was song "Too Much Fiction" created?

"Too Much Fiction" was programmed at Noosa and recorded at ERS, Gold Coast by Marty Hankins. Most of the production for that song took place on my imac at home using Digital Performer. a very cool programme. the mix was again done at ERS, Gold Coast, by Marty Hankins. (Phil)
